The website chat puts a chat bubble in the corner of your website. Every chat lands in Texa Desk, where Texa AI answers at any hour and your team joins the same conversation when it’s needed.
Create the inbox
- Go to Settings → Inboxes → Add inbox → Website.
- Enter your Website name and Website domain, for example
adafoods.ng. - Optionally, set the Widget color, a Welcome heading such as “Hi there!”, and a Welcome tagline that says what people can ask about.
- Choose Create inbox, then pick the people who answer it.
The last screen shows your code. You can copy it again at any time from the inbox’s Configuration tab.
Add the code to your website
Paste the code on every page, just before </body>. Most website builders have a place for it:
| Where your site is built | Where the code goes |
|---|---|
| WordPress | Our plugin (download it from the live chat guide), or the free WPCode plugin: Code snippets → Header & footer → Footer |
| Wix | Settings → Custom code → Add custom code, body end, all pages. Needs a paid Wix plan with a connected domain |
| Shopify | Online store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit code → theme.liquid, just before </body> |
| Squarespace | Settings → Advanced → Code injection → Footer |
| Webflow | Site settings → Custom code → Footer code, then publish |
| Google Tag Manager | A new Custom HTML tag, triggered on All pages |
Open your website and the bubble appears. Send yourself a test message. It shows up in Conversations under the new inbox, and Texa AI answers if it’s on.
If your website is built by a developer, send them the live chat guide. It covers the code, the settings, signed-in customers and events.
What visitors get
- An answer in seconds, day and night. Texa AI answers first when it’s live on the inbox, and passes the chat to your team with a summary when needed.
- One conversation per visit. Quick first messages stay in one conversation.
- A request for their email only when it helps. If nobody from your team has answered within 2 minutes and the visitor hasn’t given an email, the chat asks for one so you can reply there too.
- A rating at the end, if you turn on satisfaction surveys. See Satisfaction surveys.
What your team sees
- Where the visitor is, such as “Lagos, Nigeria · 22:07 local time”, on the conversation and the contact.
- What the visitor is typing before they send it, in grey in their typing bubble. Long numbers and anything after words such as PIN, OTP, code, CVV or password are hidden in the visitor’s own browser, so they never reach you. The visitor is told: “The team sees your message as you type.” You can turn this off in the inbox’s Settings.
- An email or mobile number the customer types in the chat is added to their contact if that field is empty, with a note for the team. Nothing already there is replaced.
Signed-in customers
If customers sign in on your website or app, your developer can tell the chat who they are. Your team then sees their name and their past chats on any device. Turn on identity validation so nobody can pretend to be someone else. The live chat guide explains both.
Other settings
Open the inbox in Settings → Inboxes to change:
- Settings: the name, the greeting, the expected reply time (“In a few minutes”, “In a few hours” or “In a day”) and the colour.
- Pre chat form: ask for a name, email or phone before the chat starts. Leave it off if Texa AI is answering, because a form before the first message puts some people off.
- Business hours: see Business hours and away messages.
- Campaigns: a message that opens on chosen pages after a few seconds. See Live chat campaigns.
